Night Hawk

I saw this sign yesterday at the Warrenton Antique Weekend. It reminded me of a restaurant dynasty that was in Austin for many years. The Night Hawk Steakhouse.
It was founded by Harry Akin. Throughout his success I beleive he ended up with 3 restaurants. Night Hawk No. 1 on Congress & Riverside, Night Hawk Steakhouse on 290 and 183 (which is now Texas Land & Cattle), and Night Hawk Frisco Shop (this one is still open on Burnet Road)
Harry Akin started his business in 1932 as a small burger shop. He would say he started his business "because there weren't any jobs to be had in 1932". Night Hawk also had another restaurant in the University area - Night Hawk No. 2. It was the height of the Great Depression.
You can learn more about the man behind the dynasty from the Austin Chronicle Article located on this website

Worlds Smallest Catholic Church - Round Top, Texas

Very interesting.... Looks like it could fit about 12 people in there.
