Armadillo World Headquarters - Austin, Texas

Threadgills - Downtown Austin
Threadgills was a place that Janis Joplin frequented.
It has home cooked southern food.
The south location was built on the old location of the Armadillo. The Armadillo World Headquarters. It has Armadillo memorabilia all over the restaurant including old posters, pictures of the inside and of bands that frequented there.
If you grew up in Austin in the '70's you know what the Armadillo is.
It was a music venue that hosted many bands that later became famous or just were famous in Austin, Texas. It was located on Barton Springs just off South Congress in an old roller skating rink. On the outside you could still see the word Skate. You could see the bands for $5.00. They sold pitchers of beer and pitchers of coke or 7-up. You could bring in your own bottle of alcohol. They also had the best nachos. It consisted of one large tostada with refried beans, cheese and a jalapeno on top.
The Armadillo World Headquarters.
Good Times.
